In the competitive world of building service contracting, it is possible to lose a satisfied account when the emphasis on contracting moves from best value to lowest qualified bidder. This was the case with McLemore and a large Southeast Texas college, approximately 10 years ago. In the interim, the college’s challenges of contending with a low cost provider were rooted in the contractor having difficulty attracting and retaining quality employees because of low wages, and in turn, quality levels diminished. In August, McLemore was once again awarded the contract. While in some respects it was a homecoming, so much had improved in our business over that period of time that we are able to bring even greater value to the client than ever before. Staff retention and service levels have improved drastically at the college and both parties are happy to be reunited.
