School District, College & University Custodial Services
McLemore provides custodial programs for K-12 school districts, colleges and universities in 29 states. Every crew member is a W-2 McLemore employee, and schools can contract with us through four purchasing cooperatives.
What do McLemore's school custodial services include?
McLemore provides custodial services for schools, including school districts, colleges and universities. Our trained, W-2 crews deliver a health-focused cleaning program built around each school's buildings, schedule and calendar.
A school program can include:
- Day-to-day custodial care such as vacuuming, mopping and trash removal
- Sanitizing high-touch surfaces in classrooms, cafeterias, gyms, restrooms and lobbies
- Deep-cleaning tasks like wall washing and carpet extraction
- Floor care, including gym floor refinishing during school breaks
Eco-friendly products are available on request.
Every employee is pre-screened with drug testing, background checks and more before they enter your facility, and each one receives training for their assignment so they can work safely and efficiently. Before we start, we walk the whole facility and build a service plan around your cleaning specifications. We run regular quality checks and share the results with you quarterly.
How does custodial service affect K-12 attendance?
In Texas and other states that fund school districts on average daily attendance, every absence costs the district state money as well as instruction time. Illness is a common reason students miss school, so a cleaning program that targets the surfaces students touch most, in classrooms, cafeterias, gyms and restrooms, is part of protecting attendance. Our absenteeism guide shows where germs collect in a school and how to estimate what absences cost your district.
How is custodial service different for colleges and universities?
Colleges buy custodial service differently from school districts. Many run on a fiscal year that starts July 1, schedule around the academic calendar, and fund cleaning through separate building or department budgets. Some buy through a system or consortium agreement. We plan work around semester starts, breaks, summer sessions and commencement, and scope each building on its own terms, from classrooms and labs to athletic facilities and administrative offices.
For a college, the case for a strong custodial program rests on how the campus looks on tours, on student retention, and on keeping research and lab space ready for use. Read more in special considerations for higher education cleaning.
Can schools and colleges buy McLemore's services through a cooperative contract?
Yes. McLemore holds competitively awarded contracts with four purchasing cooperatives: TIPS, Choice Partners, PACE and 1GPA. The cooperative has already run the competitive procurement, so a member district or college can contract with McLemore directly. If your entity isn't a member yet, joining usually means a short membership form and a board vote. If you'd rather run your own bid, start with our custodial RFP template.

Do you refinish school gym floors?
Yes. McLemore refinishes gymnasium and athletic floors for school districts, colleges and universities, and handles every level of the work:
- Screen and recoat: a light abrasion of the existing finish followed by fresh coats, to restore protection and appearance on a floor that is still in good condition.
- Full sand and refinish: sanding down to bare wood, then sealing and finishing, for floors that are worn, damaged or overdue.
- Other gym and multipurpose surfaces: strip, seal and finish for VCT and sealed concrete in gyms, multipurpose rooms and athletic areas.
Scheduled during your breaks. Gym floor work is scheduled during school breaks, so the floor has time to cure before classes, practices and games resume. Depending on your region, the work is done by a McLemore traveling floor team or by the McLemore crew already on your campus.
Gym floor refinishing can be included in your custodial program or priced separately. See our other floor care and supplemental services.
